Every price, in shares of your future.

Direct answer

The FIRE shopping cost is the time to financial independence a purchase costs, not just dollars: roughly price divided by monthly savings, plus the growth that money would have earned by your FIRE date. Recurring costs also raise your FIRE number by about 25× the annual amount (4% rule). Lens shows this next to prices while shopping. Educational, not advice.

Apogee Lens tags prices as you shop, showing what each purchase could become in SPY shares, future value, and time to financial freedom.

Questions, answered.

Is the 4% rule right for early retirement?

Not as a promise for early retirement. Morningstar's 2025 State of Retirement Income puts the base case at about 3.9% for a 30-year horizon and about 3.3% for a 40-year horizon. That is planning context only. A lower rate raises your FIRE number above 25× annual spending.

Does Lens need my bank account?

No. Apogee Lens collects no personal data, requires no account, and tracks nothing. Your inputs stay on your device. The only network request is a public market-data lookup.

Is this financial advice?

No. Apogee Lens shows illustrative opportunity-cost figures for reference only. It is not investment or financial advice.

How is this different from a retirement calculator?

Lens shows the FIRE shopping cost of a purchase next to the price while you shop. A retirement calculator projects when invested savings could cover spending and lets you change the return assumption. For a live Freedom Date, use the Apogee homepage.
